Here I Go Again
Sep. 20th, 2018 10:25 am* I fell off a horse again on Monday. Last time was on Rafid, after a trail accident. This time was on Boo. He got scared of a tree. He spun and I overcompensated on balance. Long story short, I almost stayed on, but lost my stirrup. I broke the speed of the fall by grabbing mane and slowing myself that way, but I had put slippery detangler/shine stuff in his mane and...yeah.
If I would have grabbed the pommel (horn? I don't know what it's called on an endurance saddle), I think I could have either slowed the fall tremendously, or gathered enough stability to stay on. Honestly, I forgot it was there. The dressage saddles don't have that nonsense.
So, yeah. Hit the dirt with my hip and butt.
I'm bruised on my knee and shin, too. No idea how that happened, since all the landing happened on my backside, but yeah.
I did, however, get up (after 8 minutes of laying flat and being pissy and pained) and get back on for a 12 minute ride. He spooked a few times while I was back on, and I was sick to my stomach from adrenaline and anxiety, but I handled it like a fucking BOSS.
Then I got off and wobbled about.
I took the day off yesterday and kept myself either in bed or in a hot bath. Today, I feel decent. Still really stiff and sore (I am now figuring out I pulled a few muscles from trying to stay on), but it's way better than the night before last. Way better.
Horses.
I often think to myself that I should have taken up horses (in a real way) when I was a lot younger. Ha.
