we're running out of water....
Aug. 16th, 2022 09:02 ami work hard to keep myself from doom scrolling -- but news about the drought situation in CA fills me with dread. and if you like almonds, apricots, dates, kiwis (ick), figs, nectarines, pistachios, plums, walnuts, avocados, grapes, lemons, melons, peaches, and strawberries? you should be worried, too.
my gut tells me it's going to get worse before we either normalize it or it gets better -- and i worry that it will get worse than even i can imagine. and i can imagine mad max scenarios with little to no effort. the fact we're going to most likely have another la nina (you bitch) this next season just makes the concern worse.
anyway.
i've been idly talking about buying land in either northern WI (near mister's fam) or MI (nearish mister's fam) and two days ago i shifted from idle talk to active talk. my idea is a large parcel of land on a river or (wouldn't this be nice?) a lake -- where we could lease out parts for lumber or ag until we either moved there or didn't.
mister's dad is a real estate agent, and supposedly is looking for land for us. because land loans are way more difficult to get than home loans, we might have to do some thinking about how best to do it. until then, we'll just keep socking money away and seeing where the road takes us.

i was up this morning at 5:00 because kimjoybestdogever had an accident of some type (i think she harfed) on the bed. by my feet. o.O generally speaking, i am a REALLY light sleeper and i can't believe that she did that without me waking up and catching it. ninja dog! so, yeah. i took a shower and dried my hair before anyone else was up. first time in FOREVER that i've done that.
bedding is in the wash, i cleaned dinner-mess off the kitchen island (we didn't do it last night), watered the back garden, and am on my second cup of coffee. all of this by 8 a.m. -- definitely a gold star for me day.

ok. i think there should be a bit of brekkie, a bit more coffee, then some work...on something. :)
