Still Life with Woodpecker
Aug. 1st, 2022 02:05 pmi finally stained and painted wood yesterday and have things ready to make my little layered sunflowers. while i was dialing in the settings to the laser, i was thinking about how i wanted to make different sizes and how i could best price them -- these pricing questions continued on into the later evening when i found out that the boards we've been using have gone up from $2.50 to close to $5. :( whenever i learn about the price hikes on materials we use, i sometimes find myself not wanting to make anything in an effort to "conserve" -- which honestly makes no sense.
but, anyway, today is about making sunflowers, a few cheese boards and charcuterie boards, and prepping more wood for door jam corner...decoration things. i don't even know what to call them. i also want to mess around with an idea for turning traditional barn quilt block designs into wooden pieces. so, stuff. :) my hope is that i have a box full of stuff to place in the tack store on thursday which will be -- from this week forward -- my day to volunteer and run the shop.
i need to make myself a "hi, my name is..." tag for the day. =D

i tried again to get the kid to say she wanted to home school for the year. she said no. lol :( punk.

a list of things because i'm lazy *or* because i'm lazy, a list of things:
1. dakota continues to do really, really well at the new place. so from a social/emotional health stand point...yay! there is still no place to ride him, but that should happen soon.
2. i haven't read very much over the last few weeks and i'm going to try to rectify that this afternoon/evening.
3. mister and kid got me some "drinking vinegar" with konjac jelly @ hmart last week and i tried it yesterday. HOLY HELL, why have we never had that before???? on the next trip? i'm buying a case. or two, since it's shelf stable.
4. mister is taking a few days off work this week and is working on some around here projects. he's set up a neat storage bin thing outside the back door for me and tomorrow i'm grabbing a few tomato plants and seeing if there's enough heat and sun this season to get a few tomatoes off the vine. the reason why we're so late is because....lazy? not excited? i don't know. i DO know that if our idea for the little back area (the majority of our property is in the front of the house and to the side) works, i can have a NICE garden back there next year. hopefully, the plans to keep the deer from having a feast work.
5. i haven't really worked on my meal plan for the week. :( i have some fancy mushrooms to use, so that's a priority -- i think i'll do a korean dinner tomorrow night to use them up. kid has been begging for hot pot, but it's too damn warm outside, so no. >.< the first day we're in the 60s, though? hot pot time. GIMME SOME THAT SHABU SHABU. =D
6. some of the worries i had about the new place are fading. there were lots of really GREAT plans and they're happening without any hint of slowing down. i think the timelines are a little optimistic, but as long as i see things moving forward, i'm less inclined to want to move. the good thing? we're only having to pay for his hay, which is around $200-$225 a month -- we'd have to pay that even if we had our own horse property (vs. a place to keep a horse), and with him being somewhere else, he has so many buddies to bicker and play. love that boy. :)
7. kimjoy continues to be BEST DOG EVER in the whole world. (i know your dog is probably the best dog ever to you...that's how it's supposed to work!) i'm planning on taking her to the tack shop when i work, so neither of us have separation anxiety. seriously. this dog is my heart dog and i hate the idea of leaving her at home without me! maybe next week i'll take kid to school, take kimmie somewhere so we can have coffee, then open the store at 10. there's a back area where i can walk her for potty time and we're alreay planning on making a dog bed for the shop anyway (k, our friend, takes his two dogs when he's there), so she'll have a place to hangout. really, as long as she's near me (or one of us), she's fine. ;)
...and that's my list.
