for reals this time
Jun. 12th, 2023 02:08 pmmister & child got home pretty late on saturday night, so we stayed up a bit to get our chatting out of the way and went to sleep around 1:30 a.m. i was so happy to have them back! i realized sunday morning that i don't sleep as well when they're gone.
i also realized i can't cook for one worth a shit and refuse to even do it anymore. if i'm ever on my own again, i'm getting hello fresh. *nod*
overall, the trip was a success but we're still waiting for a final foundation/structural inspection to make the next offer official. multiple people have said that there is no structural damage, although a few floor joists MIGHT need some love. apparently, in the original part of the house, the floor joists were made with hand hewn lumber which poses some unique problems in the long run. as long as the top story is structurally solid and not slipping or sliding (and unofficially, it's not), we should be fine. my guess is we'll need to do the shit you do when a house is sinking on a corner (it's 100 years old...sagging is to be expected) and once we get the estimate on that and replacing the septic tank and updating the electrical panel, we'll go back into negotiation on price and go from there.
none of us want to lose this house, so we're going to make it happen. fighting!
that said, we need it to be as nice of a price as possible because we all know that the second i pull down the paneling, there will most likely be issues and episodes that need to be addressed. and addressing them will most likely cost money. money that could be used for tractors and tractor accessories.
[btw, tractor accessories include tractor driving outfits. i've got plans, man. PLANS.]
so my guess is by this friday, we will either be waiting to hear back from the sellers if our lowered offer is accepted or we'll have it accepted and can start booking movers. crazy, but i'm starting to get excited.
~~
kiddling started her summer class today and i think we made a good decision about having her take just one class vs. the two she was scheduled to take. i honestly don't think she'll have her full gen ed load completed by june of '24 (when she'd graduate HS), but she'll be very, very close.
~~
i'm /finally/ feeling like things are going to work out like they should. mister's job bumping his pay by 20% now and in december, he'll get a 25% increase. if he can finish the security certification by then, that should add another 10% or so. boy, it will be nice to have that much breathing room again.
heck, even the 20% increase he's getting now will make me feel so much more secure — knowing that we can more aggressively build up savings again will feel nice.
one thing i need to do is move the $$ we put aside for kiddling each month into a roth or something like that. it's doing nothing worthwhile in a savings account, to be honest.
~~
time to work on LISTS for the week. i feel so much better when i have a well organized and extremely thought out list to ignore.

Date: 2023-06-13 02:08 am (UTC)I totally understand the whole more breathing room thing when it comes to finances. Walking a tightrope each month is no fun.

Date: 2023-06-19 07:31 pm (UTC)in my perfect world, we would have enough money for a live-in housekeeper and cook. as long as he or she cooked just one meal a day, i'd be happy. :) lol i like to cook and sometimes do it really, really well. other times? epic disasters. EPIC.
