uncle roger says fuyoh
Nov. 27th, 2023 10:43 ami have become slightly obsessed with youtube's favorite asian uncle, uncle roger. mostly because he calls jamie oliver "jamie olive oil" and mocks jamie's fried rice. that always has seemed sus to me, that chili jam on fried rice that JO uses.
anyway.
we did much online shopping the last few days and quite a bit of it delivered yesterday. o.O in california, our two day delivery was usually closer to four day, but there you go. weirdness? we have it.
yesterday it was 25 degrees and there was snow. not a lot, but enough for me to repeatedly say LOOKIT, SNOW! and point outside. i went outside a few times (with layers, no jacket! i'm taking a stand and am willing to die — or freeze — on this mountain.) and it was not bad at all!
i know i'm going to eventually need a coat, but listen...i'm going to make it through this winter so i can get a fancy warm one like the sherpas wear when climbing everest. until then? i'll figure it out. =D
on the christmas miracle front, old man onslow was scampering and chased a ball a few times over the weekend! i am so very thankful he is up to staying with us a bit more and can tell he's pleased about it, too. mister took a video of onslow having the fun and is sending it to the vet — she's super awesome and has reached out via text to see how he's doing.
ketamine and rimadyl have really worked for him. :)
in other news, my fresh lotus root was still a no go. we ended up getting vacuum packed par boiled and i hope it is tasty. gay husband is sending me some next week (along with my french bread), so there you go.
speaking of him, he texted me a few hours ago to tell me how cold it was here. i was like...DUH.

mister is supposed to have his review at work (and info on his raise) this week, but we'll see. they've changed his title but there's all sorts of weirdness as they try to find where to slot him and what to pay him. that's been the struggle in the jobs he's had in the past — they hire him to do one thing and then find out he can do all the things and utilize the fuck out of him and don't want to or know how to make salary match duties.
this is the first company he's been with that has acknowledged that there's an imbalance and are actively working to make things match up, but because some of it is architecture, some of it is networking, some of it is security, and some of it is mentoring, it's all wonkadoodle.
in my dreams, they give him BIG raise and BIG bonus all at once, because until my house sells, i can't even begin to plan the barn.
we need the barn, people. that's what this whole move was about. (ok, i'm really the only one that was all BARN with big eyes and breathless gasps, but again...whatever).
and horses. and alpacas. and goats. and chickens. and tractors.
but all those things will pay for themselves! think of what we'll save on eggs! and....alpaca....fur. and goat....cheese. =D

kidlet has finals projects this week and next and will be finished with her 2nd semester of college (including a summer session course). wow. i don't think she'll get all of her pattern classes done by the time she would technically be finished with high school (june of 2025), but she'll be close. with what she's doing, she'll be close to two years ahead of college than her peers, which is either going to be awesome or not so much.
we'll have to see.
at that point, she most likely will be going to UM duluth and we'll have to just figure things out. SHE wants to do an online program, stay home, ride horses and play video games in her off time. i wouldn't mind that, but at the same time, i don't understand it. then again, all things can change, right?

mister and kid are heading into duluth for some tail-end giftmas shopping.
it's too cold outside for my thin blood, so i am planning on:
— 20 mins of yoga
— meal planning for the week
— tidying up
— reading! :)
they won't be back until late afternoon, so it's going to be a quiet day around here. i like that!

Date: 2023-11-27 05:00 pm (UTC)Interesting about the Amazon delivery system. We have multiple Amazon warehouses nearby, so we can get next day delivery on a lot of things. I have a cousin in Nebraska who says Amazon deliveries always take at least a week to her town.

Date: 2023-11-27 09:05 pm (UTC)Uncle Roger is right. Cook your rice at least a day before you make fried rice to get the right texture and put it in the fridge.

Date: 2023-11-27 11:31 pm (UTC)i'm excited, too! mister keeps asking me what i'm going to DO with them and i'm like....dress them up and comb their hair. duh. lol
you would have thought we could have got stuff in CA quicker because of how close we were to warehouses, but that wasn't the case. it was so strange!

Date: 2023-12-01 04:51 pm (UTC)I like Uncle Roger — there have been some very funny rice fails he has looked at.
I try not to wear my winter coat until after Dec. 1 but I don't think I'd last in TO without a winter coat. I wish you many many warm layers!
I sympathize with your husband. I have that a lot of the time. I'm hired as an admin type of job but it turns out that I can do a lot of things decently. I couldn't be hired to be IT but I generally can do most of what I need etc. so I wind up doing a lot that isn't ever paid for. It's tough.
