chicks have been procured and we're already realizing we overthought a whole lotta stuff. today we're building a brooder box for the garden shed/greenhouse, getting the temp comfortable in there, and moving them from their indoor location to their outdoor location.
we do have one that's not thriving, so she's on probiotics and hourly monitoring/watering/feeding. she's doing better than she was this morning, so there's hope.
we ended up with 3 americanas and 4 orpingtons — in a month or so, we'll add 2 russian orloff hens to the mix (a critically endangered breed) which will hopefully get us to my magic-number-9. if the little one that's not doing well doesn't make it, we may get 3 little russians.

so, something happened yesterday.
the lady we got the chicks from, jenny, is where kid does some riding/working. jenny breeds/rescues/procures american bashkir curly horses — which, for the most part, i don't find all that appealing, but they're horses so they're gorj, right? anyway, we got there and in the barn w/the chicks were two mares. one was a curly-haired curly, and the other was a bay that looked like a normal horse (to me). apparently the normal one is a "straight haired curly" which makes no fucking sense, but horse people, yo.
there was something about the bay that kept...i don't know, like we EYED each other and i could FEEL her communicating to me. she is super shy, not used to people, and has limited (if any training), and so on and so forth....but we just clicked.
i find out she's having a bebe this month, so of course i'm all over that and want to be part of the bebe experience, because...BEBE HORSES = BEST THING EVER and as i was talking to the mare, i hear jenny tell seija "as soon as she has her baby, maybe you can start working with her for your mom."
i was all "GIRL YOU READ MY MIND" and so in my head? i have a horse. a MARE, thank you.
lol
we'll see what happens. we don't even have pasture ready. ;)
(but i have a horse. shhh.)

man. spring makes the world move FAST.

i am really unfocused right now and need to get that under control. when i get like this, i end up getting stressed and feel myself moving to an almost manic state. there's only so much i can control and i need to spend some time with my eyes JUST on those things.
a few weeks ago i did reset on my diet and it worked resoundingly well; i think today is a reset on LIFE.
i did get some things accomplished: i scheduled my lab work, made an appointment with my PCP, and did some housework. you would think as an edwardian lady of leisure in training my house would be cleaner.
apparently, i'm still waiting for the maids to show up.
ima gonna be waiting for awhile. :(
