she's so cold
Feb. 16th, 2025 10:02 pm+ we left on friday morning in time, i thought, to beat the weather. we ALMOST made it, too! but about 25 minutes before the hotel, it started snowing pretty heavily and the roads were pretty trecherous — to the point i could feel the car sort of slippy and slidy. that was all sorts of OH FUCK to my california sensibilities. then shit got all sorts of crazy when an ambulance started merging onto the freeway behind me....then turned on their lights and sirens.
the car in front of me panicked like i did and we sort of just kept going slow and not wanting to pull over to the side or to the lane to the left because, well, it was fucking snowing and the roads were all batshit crazy. while it felt like a long, long time, both the car in front and i moved over without spinning in circles or.....whatever cars do on bad roads.
we had planned to go to the asian mall that night, but once we got to the hotel i had such an adrenaline dump and was so relieved to be off the road that we just tucked in to the room, doordashed chick-fil-a ($50 for a sandwich, two orders of waffle fries, and macNcheese....and a milkshake....i about died), and went to sleep.
the next morning my poor sweet tesla was covered in snow and GUESS WHO DOESN'T HAVE ONE OF THOSE BRUSHY SCRAPY SNOW THINGS? me, me is who. i was momentarlily pissy at the mister — because it's his job to make sure i don't get eaten by winter — but it really wasn't that big of a deal since the snow was super floofy.
we got to the equestrian center and did horse stuff for the whole damn day. i was planning on coming home right after, but mister let me know at lunch that he was already booking us a new hotel (near asia mall!) because the storm was still doing storm stuff up by us and roads were horrible. i was so sad! i missed my husband and my creatures and wanted nothing more than to go home.
alas.
after the d1 certification ceremony (where the 12 8-15 year olds and....i got all sorts of woohoos lol), kid and i went through downtown stupid st. paul to asia mall and spent a few hours meandering. she got boba, we shared an amazing puff pastry filled with coconut cream, and i shopped for korean staples hard to find around here. radish kimchi! korean pickled diakon! ssamjang! and i picked up some tasty treats for mister. :)
we left without eating and doordashed sushi and an asian salad....and some avocado potstickers that were surprisingly delicious. double the amount we spent on chick-fil-a and i didn't even care. (it helped that we had credits on the account)
our hotel was amazing and comfortable, we hit the hay pretty early and slept in pretty late this morning.
when we went to leave, the tesla had decided she had more than e-fucking-nough of us keeping her outside two cold nights in a row and her navigation overly aggressively yelled at me. seriously, there was a problem and it kept ricochetting directions that made no sense.
so we had to resort to old school. no, not paper map old school — google map navigation with the kid keeping me appraised of which way i'd be turning.
we went to target to charge up and shop a bit, then finally got going. thankfully, by that time, miss tesla decided to tell me how to get home. we made it to the halfway point for a charge and the supercharger i plugged into was....
was.....
frozen. FROZEN. my car yelled about that, too. so we moved to another one, she got juiced up, and we headed home.
and made it with only one more weird incident where the car yelled that i was a shitty driver and offered to take over.
at this point, she's sentient and i figure if i can handle owning a mare, i can handle owning a sentient car.
+ dogs about broke hips from excitement, husband was warm and solid in my arms, and i was just delighted to be home. he had cleaned, made dinner, and kept the homestead fires burning.
he's a good, good man that man. :)

i am cautiously optimistic that i didn't gain weight over the last few days like i had feared. after dinner and my shower, i weighed myself and i'm actually at a lower weight than the last evening weigh-in i did before we left.
{i weigh myself in the evenings and mornings and have been for some time now — it gives me a good idea where i am overall.}
while i truly did not go way overboard, i went overboard for me. i had two whole handfuls of hershey's kisses! o.O the puff pastry concoction! half a soda! FRIED food! o.O
those are the kinds of things that normally would bloat me up, but i stayed on top of my water and just made good choices when i could. *shrug* we'll see what the next few days look like....maybe all that food will catch up to me later this week. lol
~~~
we're due for some serious-ass cold weather over the next day or two, so it's all about hunkering down and keeping creatures great and small safe and comfortable. the windchill is expected to be -40 just west of us, but i am keeping my fingers crossed we escape it.
that's just too cold, people. too, too cold.
ok! time to climb into bed. mister is talking to some friends on discord while playing a computer game with them — they're talking about gencon (aka DEN OF THE 'RONA) and what they're going to do and all that. mister originally didn't want to go, didn't want to risk catching it again, and while i understand that completely and totally, we'll just vaccine up and hope for the best.
life's too short not to live it.
so i have his voice to lull me, which i really, really have missed.
it's lovely to be home. :)
