[from saturday]

ok, so it's even more humid and hot and my california "but it's a DRY heat" sensibilities are in a snit. the flies are HORRID and our poor horses are afraid to go out of their clean(ish) and shop-fanned stalls into the OUT because the flies just swarm them.

they were not this bad last year. then again, our mosquitos this year are not AS bad as last year. added to the mix this year are blister beetles which are, basically, fuckers and can cause problems in horses (because why not add ANOTHER thing that can kill a horse?), so i've been murdering the beetles as i can and checking hay pretty carefully.

and it's HUMID. swampy nether regions, swampy non-nether regions, swampy everything.

there's a summer solstice barn dance that's going on and i sent mister and kid off; no way am i being outside without a very defined and short term purpose. i'll go next year...unless this is what i'm dealing with, then NOPE again.

tomorrow is going to be our hottest day this week (in a few days we're back in the 60s, supposedly) and we're planning on going kayaking on the river. i can't tell if that's a good idea or a not good idea....the stretch we're looking at is a 4 hour paddle, so it's not like i can stop 30 mins in and go home.

technically, i guess, i could just get out of the kayak, get cold, then get back in. but in this humidity, will that even work? i know today i had to take my shirt off and dunk it in the horses' water, put it back on, and bitch a few minutes before i decided i wasn't going to die and just finished up what i was doing.

lort help me.

[sunday]

kayaking did not happen, even though the weather probably would have cooperated. we just had too much to do around here with one gimpy horse and all the other STUFF that needed to be tended to today.

maybe we'll go tuesday.

for dinner today, kid requested potato salad sandwiches (i love when the southern po' folk girl comes out; if only she'd eat meat and have a fried bologna sandwich), sweet tea, and sugar snap peas. because i'm always about striving for being extra, i made a loaf of bread, used lettuce, chives, and dill from the garden, got the freshest of butt nuggets from the chickens, and went to town on making for my bebe the goodness.

mister took his microsnot certification today and and and.....has a provisional pass! wooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo! if all goes to plan, he'll get his first $$ from that on the first of august. who's gonna go shopping for a saddle? ME. i won't be getting one right away, but i'll shop for 'it. ;)

now it's time for d&d with friends, planning for fourth of july celebrations, menu planning, and other such stuff. we have friends coming to stay with us over the 4th and there are plans to be 80s girls (laying on the beach, listening to music, and enjoying ourselves), board game players, and other such things. i'm SO looking forward to it — i really enjoy these people. :)
