* there is something to be said about intention and how it can provide additional support to our reality. case in point: sage smudging to counteract negative energy in a space (be it a external space, an internal space, or — dare i say it and risk being referential — a liminal space

the other day, after having people over and having so much STUFF going on, i felt the studio needed a reset. [i am a HUGE fan of resets — my personal feeling is that if i don't have regular resets, i'm stagnating.] so i brought out the sage stick (white, of course!), lit it up, and smudged alllll through the room, moving from the back to the door, fanning the smoke to the exit, and then letting it go out and away

the intent of the exercise was what was most important: capturing nonsense in the smoke and escorting it out and away. while i don't necessarily believe in magic, per se, i do believe in ritual and its impact on us as humans. our front brain may be full of "this is silly," our reptile brains know better.

[for the record, my reptile brain totally believes in magic. and ghosts. and god, but not god with a capital G, more like god being a mote in the universe's eye — a little power connected to an even larger one.]

* it's only taken me close to two years to feel settled here in minnesconsin. and, truthfully, i'm not 100% settled. i don't know why that is — maybe my nature of not wanting to stay in one place very long, my ability to get utterly bored with comfort after a relatively short time, an unwillingness to, figuratively speaking, pick at scabs so they can never fully heal. i know these feelings come from a place of utter privilege — or maybe they partially come from there? — but the reality is that i'm a restless spirit in this world.

and it's annoying AF.

the number of times i compare here to california and found the former lacking have dramatically decreased. i'm now at a point where i miss the nostalgia of california more than the place itself: my childhood and the majority of my adulthood were constructed around sunshine and destinations (e.g. disneyland, six flags, the beach, the mountains, the desert). at any time, i was just a few hours away from a completely different world — that was nice.

now i find myself not wanting to really go anywhere; why leave when i'm surrounded by the things i'm now surrounded by? i have the mister, the kid, a few good friends, even more amazing friends who have the potential to be on the good scale, nature nature nature, and chickens! and, of course, the ponies.

i do want to go back to CA soon: i need some disneyland and pacific ocean and GOOD tortillas. i also want to see a few people who i still love and adore. but overall? if disney would build a park in minnyapples, if my friends could come out here, and if i could learn to make tortillas....i'd be just fine. i mean, if i squint lake superior kind of looks like an ocean. ;)

and while CA sure as hell has some problems, the fact that the fuckhead orange cheeto hates it so much brings me GREAT joy. i still maintain the fact that anyone who voted for him is a deplorable human. *nod*

* what else? oh, little facts:

— spicy korean dishes make me eat less and stay full longer. it's the spice, yo! and the abundance of vegetables.

— our chickens are bougie beyond belief. they do NOT like all of the nesting boxes so like 10 of them will fight over one. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. so i'm going to get RID of their favorites after i add some brand new ones.

with cut yoga mats inside so they don't slip.

and curtains.

YES. I KNOW I AM NOT JUST PART OF THE PROBLEM, I *AM* THE PROBLEM.

shh.

— i am having to hurry to finish the book i'm reading — it's due back to the library in two days! o.O so i'm going to camp out later and get it done. i love lazy reading days. :) not that there's much lazy really happening: chickens and horses don't allow for that. since i have to take something off my plate to get the time for reading....

house cleaning it is.

i don't really believe this. ;)

i don't really believe this. ;)

the book that has me captured is:

i usually hate dual timeline plots, but this one is pretty tasty!

and that's about it. fam will be home pretty soon, so i need to fluff my hair and put on deodorant. ;) (kidding, only a shower is going to help get rid of the horse funk...not that *i* think smelling like a horse is funky. nope. it's one of the best smells in the world. IN. THE. WORLD.)
