perfecting peace
Jul. 30th, 2025 02:22 pm~ mister and k left this morning at 6 to the geek convention in indianapolis. i stayed in bed another half hour or so and got up to feed/water/check chickens and horses, then came and got back in bed for a morning nap. i probably should have just stayed up, but i've been excessively tired from all the frivolity and felt a quiet tuck in wouldn't be a bad idea.
~ we have been really busy every day for the past two weeks or so. getting ready for company and then having company for such a long stretch meant that i had only a few slivers of alone time for recharging. that's just fine, though, because the memories we made with friends/fam were way worth it.
we FINALLY made good on the "let's rent kayaks and see if we like it" idea and did a 90 minute paddle down the river last wednesday then went again on friday for a 4 hour paddle. i wasn't worried about the rapids at all (having grown up near the kern river and tubing down it has made me brave...or stupid...or both) and the most treacherous part of our trip was me having to get out of the kayak to find a place to pee — or maybe the treacherous part was getting back in.
anyway, big fun and a GREAT workout.
mister liked it so much that he agreed we should get a few kayaks and try to go at least 2x a week until the season is over.
i LIKE that idea!
~ kid and i rode a few times and she stayed up on her lessons. she's working with a trainer who suggested that s ride a horse that has more fine tuned buttons than my beloved misty — turns out, the horse is a grand prix level angel baby that can do crap like this:
maybe not QUITE like that, but close enough. =D misty will not be able to be that lofty and that floaty and that bendy and collected, but she also is not a $$warmblood$$ with freaky mutated dressage genes. *nod*
the weather honestly has not been that great for riding, plus the AQ has been not-so-great, but we're doing what we can.
~ i find it amusing when people get all fucking snippy about the fact i have a tesla. at this point, we're vilified by people on both sides of the political spectrum. trumpidiots get mad because elon broke up with trump; nontrumpidiots get mad because elon was trump's buttbuddy.
i'm like, dudes, it's a fucking car. do you really not have anything better to do than be a twat? one of my friends from ca actually followed some karen who had flipped her off to a grocery store parking lot and confronted her (as one does), all up in her face and shit. then it became a teaching moment and while it didn't end up in a hug, it hopefully made karen realize that the people IN the car are not to blame for the guano crazy nonsense going on.
i mean, i bought my car in the middle of the pandemic when i thought i was still going to be commuting to my job — an hour a away, up a huge hill, with gas close to $5 a gallon.
there is so much more to be pissed at instead of some stranger having a car that, in your mind, stands for some big bad THING.
remember: sometimes a tea kettle is just a tea kettle.
~ i'm going to spend the 5 days mister is gone deep cleaning and organizing our bedroom. i'm excited for him to come home and have a pristine place to sleep — a place where my chonies aren't tossed all over the place, where books aren't stacked next to the bed, and where the closet isn't full of clothes that don't fit either of us. =D
~ when we went down to minnyapples, we visited the cousins down there and at first, i hated it. too crowded and the machines were tight. then, this happened and we walked away super flush. ;) i like those bees!
~ the kananpoika are doing very well — we have so many eggs that i've decided that if i don't get my little farm stand up and going, we're going to have to start feeding the eggs to the chickens. o.O to try and avoid this, i'm making deviled eggs for the child, boiled eggs for me, and using some to make enriched bread (brioche).
~ over the last weekend, we had more friends come to stay the night. it was a full house! there was much fun had and these same people are coming to stay with us over labor day for birthday celebrations (mine is in early september, friend t's is late august): we are doing a shark theme celebration and putting up the outdoor screen to watch jaws. i found all sorts of shark-themed decorations, too...so i'm excited about that. =D
kid's never watched jaws, so the day after we see it, i'm going to suggest we go to the beach. #badmom
~ ok. time to make lists and do some writing and some arting. :)
