i worry for the world we are creating for all of our children and sometimes feel that worry heavy in my pockets as i wade into a very deep, very dark river.
.
updates:
- i have effectively been teaching from home for close to six months now. it's actually not that bad -- mostly because our union negotiated for us AND for the kids. burnout is not happening for me, because we have so much more time to plan and do the administrative stuff for school. it's been pretty great, to be honest.
- with both parents at home, the beloved teenager has been doing much better with homeschool. she has her not-so-great days, but that's normal; at least now we're here to help her navigate and do what she needs to do. she misses socializing with other kiddos, but not as much as i thought she would.
then again, she's the poster child for the adage "still waters run deep". i have to take her emotional temperature in a variety of ways to get a clear picture of what goes on in that crazy-delightful mind and heart of hers.
- dakota, the wonder mustang, is doing so so so so well. i really love him! he's a kind and gentle horse, for the most part, and he's helping me get over my own fears and insecurities -- and not just about horse riding! i realize that dressage is not in our future, for a variety of reasons, so i'm just going to ride the horse i have and not worry about what i don't have. we'll see what happens in another year! i think there are enough horses up here for dressage playing if i want to go that route. all i know is i am infatuated deeply and truly by my four-legged, snaggle-tooth friend.

- as it stands now, i for sure am DL teaching until january. at that time, my district will reevaluate and so will i. i am thinking of taking a sabbatical and seeing what happens. my guess? we'll have some in-person teaching, there will be cases that happen, and we'll close again. there's just no way we can keep kids and staff safe without an overhaul of the way we do things and that doesn't look like it's happening.
i'd love to quit work, so very much, but horses are expensive. :(
- speaking of expensive, when i was pretty sure we were going to go back to school, i talked to husband about the end of our lease on our lexus and what we wanted to do. with the cost of gas in california and the distance of our commute, a long range electric seemed smart. so, that's what we went with. meet my long range electric car:

...and we don't have a commute to drive. which i'm happy about...but which makes me wish we would have just turned the lexus in and lived with the truck (one vehicle) until school started up again.
oh well. :)
anyway, this car is totally designed for a dude. they needed more input from women on functionality, i've decided.
it does go fast though. and it's not even the super fast one. o.O
- we also have a horse trailer now! we got it for free and it's fugly, but a coat of paint will turn it to...just ugly. lol my trainer's brother needed to get rid of it and just gave it to us with a clean title. seriously cool beans on that!
- tonight we have a d&d session with friends; things are hitting a nice groove with them and playing, so i'm happy about that. our last campaign i played a ranger/thief and did so much damage i needed gear that said "OP" on it. for this campaign, i'm a warlock (who looks and talks like nadja from "what we do in the shadows") with an imp named nandor. =D lol
seriously, she is rocking even though she's surrounded by stupid bloody donkeys. *nod*
