interesting day yesterday...sort of.
after i posted yesterday's entry, i got straight to work tidying up and junk. i guess i've been keeping up on a lot of things without realizing it, because we were finished by noon o'clockish! that's a record!
all was well until mister went to go drop food for dakota -- he called saying he had a flat tire. it was the tire i told him about a week or so ago and i couldn't help but be a little pissy because we just IGNORE warnings and then shit falls apart at the most inconvenient times. so, he aired the tire up, got home, and sure 'nuff...there's a hole. sooooooo, tomorrow we have to either limp it into the tire shop in town (IF they have tires for the tesla...if it was the truck, they'd have all sorts of inventory) or change to the spare. i'm full of "don't we have roadside assistance?" and he's full of "i can make it into town."
so, after THAT he went to the club to pick up our food. by the time he got home, we had 15 minutes to eat, clean up, and freshen up before people got here. they had forgot my soup (which i had been waiting for since wednesday, dammit) and my burger was all sorts of NOT COOKED and i tossed it. i gave up instead of heating it up in the microwave because...no soup. lol seriously, the universe was telling me i had not had a hissy fit in awhile and it was obviously time, so i just said fuck it and had an internal hissy fit. at that point, i wanted nothing to do with anything other than sulking on the bed, so i bowed out of d&d and did just that. they played, no one died, and i got my sulks in, so all was well.
but still...no cabbage soup.

i was worried the guys would be mad that i didn't play, but they weren't. they're all used to crazy-ass women, i guess. i wonder if there were knowing looks and nods to each other. probably best i don't know.

this week we need to try and schedule an informal "meeting" with the rescue where i'm volunteering and dakota is boarding. while i really want to help them, i am finding that the woman in charge finds it a challenge to let go of things. she wants a bunch of stuff to happen, but when people offer, she sort of side-steps, gives half-assed answers, and then brushes them off with a promise of "later." a huge part of it is that she has built this from the ground up all on her own -- plus, she's got a full time job and a toddler. which is why....nothing really gets done and it's always stressful triage.
one thing i'm going to offer up is starting selling on e-bay and local market places. there is at least $20K worth of saddles alone that need to be moved -- and we are in a SMALL community, so moving them goes slowly. (although i saw a really nice english saddle that would fit me and dakota...lol) anyway, while i'm 100% willing to volunteer at the tack shop, i'm not 100% willing to sink all of my time to the rescue for free. so i'm going to ask that i get 15% (or maybe 20%) of all sales paid to me. she is really going to balk at that and think "i could sell stuff on ebay myself and not pay her!" but she DOESN'T HAVE TIME. plus, she doesn't expect the vet or farrier to work for free, so why should i? i mean think about it -- if we could sell the 20K worth of saddles, i'd have $4000 and she'd have $16000.
sixteen thousand dollars she doesn't have now. THAT is a lot of hay.
i swear to jebus, if people would let me just be in charge of shit, EVERYONE would benefit. at least that's what i think. =D

my back yard garden tomatoes are doing OK, but i'm still thinking there's not enough of the season left to get anything other than a tragic little harvest. so i had a thought -- what if i made a mini greenhouse for them? that will help them stay warm at night and give them the heat they need to give me some tomatoes. i think i could do it without a lot of materials and $$$$, to be honest. it's worth a try.
the basil is being stupid -- i can't keep it outside, because even a few hours of high altitude sun make them wilty and sad looking. so every morning i water the two plants, put them outside in an area that gets *some* sun, and bring them in before they start getting direct sun. jerks.
i've been eyeballing the wild life and the ground squirrels (fuckers) are probably going to be my biggest enemy. there's a mama and baby deer set that come visit every day (most likely because i give them an apple each morning) and they'll eat my stuff if they notice it, but mister says we should be fine this year.
we'll see.

i have a lot i want to get accomplished this week and am looking forward to being busy. school @ my old district starts on wednesday and i want to keep busy with the things that remind me that we made the right decision in me quitting. it's going to be too hot for me to do ALL of the things that would remind me i did right, but there's PLENTY i can do. :)

Date: 2022-08-15 12:20 am (UTC)We have huge issues with deer eating our stuff. We have seen as many as 5 or 6 in our yard eating our stuff, and we bang on the window to scare them off. They are all over our neighborhood. A few years ago, we planted bushes and trees that were touted to be "deer resistant." Trouble is, that is a moving target. What deer don't like today, they might like during another season, depending on their food supply.

Date: 2022-08-15 09:04 pm (UTC)i never thought that deer might change their minds about what they eat! o.O i told mister we should just get the deer their own apple tree and he just looked at me and shook his head. :(

Date: 2022-08-15 01:19 am (UTC)Glad you got your sulk in lol. Some days really do require a good sulk and it sure sounds like you had one.
Many of my friends had lousy harvests this year, it was a weird climate year I think.

Date: 2022-08-16 01:40 am (UTC)I hope you can have a good salad garden!! It can be tough to start one I think, but once it's going it's so awesome to just step outside and get what you need. Especially with herbs, I saved LOTS of money growing my own!
