books!

i read so much last week that my eyes got all squirrely. reason number 241 why physical books are 1000x better than ebooks.

louise penny's 2nd three pines book was consumed pretty quickly -- it was neat to see how different the tv show is compared to the book. it is still a fucking TRAGEDY that alfred molina (national treasure!) doesn't get a chance to develop the character of CI armand gamache. i am as delighted in this character as i am with poirot. AND I AM FOND OF POIROT.

since i signed up for my three month free trial of kindle unlimited, i have access to books 1-7 of the three pines series, which is GOOD.

i also dipped into charlaine harris' gunnie rose series with the first book /an easy death/. i have always loved charlaine's writing; her style and material make me feel like i'm sitting on a veranda on a porch swing, enjoying a lovely summer day. so the book was good enough for me to get the 2nd one (kindle unlimited is my hero!)and it's just waiting for me to get to it.

i'm trying, book. i'm trying!

last week i finally read /mexican gothic/ and enjoyed it, although i don't quite get what the fuss was about. it was a good story, but in some places i just thought it was silly and so derivative that it was shameful. based on reviews, i thought it would have had more literary substance, but i honestly should know better than to trust fancy reviews.

---

on tap for the next week or so:

/weyward/ by emilia hart
A riveting debut that explores witchcraft and female intuitive powers, told over five centuries through three connected women, for fans of Kate Morton, Diane Setterfield, and Sarah Perry.

/carrie soto is back/ by taylor jenkins reid
tennis player has drama with her dad. - summary by me. lol

house!

so the house shopping continues. mister reached out to a place we might look at renting, since the number of moving parts makes everything so complicated with us out here. note: the house he's asking about is right on a big lake. =-D

we had a line on a FSBO house that was really nice and had just enough space for a little horse property, but she ended up taking it off the market yesterday. mister had been in communication with her for a few days with long calls (midwestern sharing-too-much? dunno.) about what the property was like, what needed to be done, blah blah.

she said she had to sell due to health reasons, and my guess is that the idea of selling, packing, moving made her so verklempt she just couldn't.

i was, of course, disappointed and pissy and all of those things, but what are you gonna do?

we'd be able to move much sooner if someone (me) was willing to move farther from the water, but i'm not. so there.

so we're BACK to square one and another hiccup is the bullshit change in mortgage rates for to people with good credit. i don't have 100% of the details and need to figure it out, but it looks like the fha is bumping rates for people with credit over 680 to help subsidize mortgages for people with poorer credit.

IF we sell our house before we buy, no big deal: we'll go conventional with 20% down. but we wanted the option of doing an FHA with the 3.5% down in case we want to carry two mortgages until california house sells. o.O

universe? just make things work out, k? k. xox =D

My mother loves Poirot, but she loves all mysteries and was addicted to watching British mysteries on tv :P
