with mirth and laughter
Jul. 24th, 2023 03:41 pmhello, lovelies. :)
house stuff on the 80 acre farm got to a point where the smart thing was to walk away. i'm thankful that even though it took us awhile to get to the point where we realize it was the smart thing, we had that time available to us and acted on it.
tomorrow another farm (only 40 acres, no potential airbnb on the property) is getting looked at and if it's as good as we think it is, we'll put an offer on it. it's less $$, seems like it has none of the huge money fixit items the other one had, and seems like it would be a really, really good fit.
it's felt like we've been in a holding pattern for WEEKS, so dropping out of escrow didn't come with a big bag of disappointment — in fact, it felt sort of like a relief. but not quite. anyway, we'll see where this next one goes. my gut tells me we'll be back in minnesconsin by the time the leaves turn in 2023, so that will be a good thing. ~~
horse happiness for the kid continues and this is her newest love, fey:

fey is, as most horses are, for sale* but i told kid that if she wants to pursue a purchase, she needs to get pertinent information from the trainer and at that point, if things seem doable, the adults will get involved. right now, fey only has about 50 rides on her, so i'd say she's still greenish, but the trainer said she's one of the best horses she's come across in awhile. so we'll see what we see.
for me, i'm waiting until we get back there to find my trail/arena pony. dakota is a fucking bag of nonsense with trail riding and even in the arena he's a little too watchy for me to be comfortable with. he's still coming back there with us, but he'll be our "putz around the arena and open property" pony.
i do want to toss some acknowledgement out there at how proud i am of kid right now. she's earning her own money for her lessons on fey, she's getting up early to do it, and she's even willing to ride later in the day during one of the hottest summers on record. go kid. me? i'd be like "if we're not in the saddle by 8 a.m., fuck off because by 10, i'm inside and in with the AC."
yep. it's fucking hot. ~~
mister is leaving us on 8/6 for a full week. o.O kid and i will either rise to the occasion or starve to death.
or one of us will kill the other.
she and i both know how much calm he brings to the situation and are anticipating at least one day of HAD (huge assed drama) while he's gone. it might be that one of the dogs gets hurt and needs the vet**, or we find a rattlesnake in the yard***, or kimjoy sneaks a rotting ground squirrel carcass in the house, or a pipe explodes and flooding happens, or or or. i'm looking at it as an adventure! but not really. ~~
i have been netflix binge watching suits for the last few weeks and i have zero idea why. well, perhaps not ZERO, but close to. one of the main characters is such a little entitled white boy that no matter HOW MUCH they work at making him seem likeable, they miss the mark. also, miss royal whatsherface can't act for shit. i don't hate her character, but man....one trick pony as far as acting goes.
the one character that i absolutely positively love is louis:

i get this feeling that the writers for this show each had one character that they were in charge of, and every writer went to the dumbass fifty shades of grey writing academy except for the one in charge of louis, who went to john hopkins and graduated the top of her class in creative writing.
admission: i have been fast forwarding through most scenes except the ones with louis in it. AND I CAN STILL FIGURE OUT WTF IS GOING ON.
i'm on the final season and feel like i need a breather, so started lockwood and co. last night just for funsies. i like it. ;)
i haven't been reading too much since my brain has been NON STOP FIGURING SHIT OUT(tm), but i got a few books today to read and plan on getting back to my roots. i ignored my literary fiction list and pulled up some books from the good housekeeping list of best books from 2020. i avoided every title that had any of the following words in the description:
woke, climate crisis, political apocalypse, visibility, representation, hashtagmetoo, inclusive, oppression, gender exploration, agency....and there were a few more, but you get it.
also, no foreign writers could even LOOK at the list i was compiling. i was like get the fuck out of here, sayaka murata.
because right now, i want...no, i NEED....something that entertains me and goes in one eye and out the other. my brain needs cuddles and comfort and the intellectual equivalent of ben and jerry's cherry garcia to amuse it.
so homeland elegies is just going to have to wait, but it — and others like it — are on my list so don't come at me. =D
and now it's time to pack or clean or read. or something.
* once a trainer told me that there's no such thing as a horse that's not for sale. in theory, he was right.
** nandor the sass mouth husky had some problems with his rear foot and we had to get the vet out. she extracted three foxtails that had abscessed and $300 + one wrapped foot later + antibiotics, he's fine.
*** i found a dead, desiccated snake next to the house that we thought was a shed. it was wedged under a piece of metal and i can't believe no one but me saw it. ugh.
