hello, lovelies. :)

house stuff on the 80 acre farm got to a point where the smart thing was to walk away. i'm thankful that even though it took us awhile to get to the point where we realize it was the smart thing, we had that time available to us and acted on it.

tomorrow another farm (only 40 acres, no potential airbnb on the property) is getting looked at and if it's as good as we think it is, we'll put an offer on it. it's less $$, seems like it has none of the huge money fixit items the other one had, and seems like it would be a really, really good fit.

it's felt like we've been in a holding pattern for WEEKS, so dropping out of escrow didn't come with a big bag of disappointment β€” in fact, it felt sort of like a relief. but not quite. anyway, we'll see where this next one goes. my gut tells me we'll be back in minnesconsin by the time the leaves turn in 2023, so that will be a good thing. ~~

horse happiness for the kid continues and this is her newest love, fey:

pretty little girl!

pretty little girl!

fey is, as most horses are, for sale* but i told kid that if she wants to pursue a purchase, she needs to get pertinent information from the trainer and at that point, if things seem doable, the adults will get involved. right now, fey only has about 50 rides on her, so i'd say she's still greenish, but the trainer said she's one of the best horses she's come across in awhile. so we'll see what we see.

for me, i'm waiting until we get back there to find my trail/arena pony. dakota is a fucking bag of nonsense with trail riding and even in the arena he's a little too watchy for me to be comfortable with. he's still coming back there with us, but he'll be our "putz around the arena and open property" pony.

i do want to toss some acknowledgement out there at how proud i am of kid right now. she's earning her own money for her lessons on fey, she's getting up early to do it, and she's even willing to ride later in the day during one of the hottest summers on record. go kid. me? i'd be like "if we're not in the saddle by 8 a.m., fuck off because by 10, i'm inside and in with the AC."

yep. it's fucking hot. ~~

mister is leaving us on 8/6 for a full week. o.O kid and i will either rise to the occasion or starve to death.

or one of us will kill the other.

she and i both know how much calm he brings to the situation and are anticipating at least one day of HAD (huge assed drama) while he's gone. it might be that one of the dogs gets hurt and needs the vet**, or we find a rattlesnake in the yard***, or kimjoy sneaks a rotting ground squirrel carcass in the house, or a pipe explodes and flooding happens, or or or. i'm looking at it as an adventure! but not really.  ~~

i have been netflix binge watching suits for the last few weeks and i have zero idea why. well, perhaps not ZERO, but close to. one of the main characters is such a little entitled white boy that no matter HOW MUCH they work at making him seem likeable, they miss the mark. also, miss royal whatsherface can't act for shit. i don't hate her character, but man....one trick pony as far as acting goes.

the one character that i absolutely positively love is louis:

you've been litt!

you've been litt!

i get this feeling that the writers for this show each had one character that they were in charge of, and every writer went to the dumbass fifty shades of grey writing academy except for the one in charge of louis, who went to john hopkins and graduated the top of her class in creative writing.

admission: i have been fast forwarding through most scenes except the ones with louis in it. AND I CAN STILL FIGURE OUT WTF IS GOING ON.

i'm on the final season and feel like i need a breather, so started lockwood and co. last night just for funsies. i like it. ;)

i haven't been reading too much since my brain has been NON STOP FIGURING SHIT OUT(tm), but i got a few books today to read and plan on getting back to my roots. i ignored my literary fiction list and pulled up some books from the good housekeeping list of best books from 2020. i avoided every title that had any of the following words in the description:

woke, climate crisis, political apocalypse, visibility, representation, hashtagmetoo, inclusive, oppression, gender exploration, agency....and there were a few more, but you get it.

also, no foreign writers could even LOOK at the list i was compiling. i was like get the fuck out of here, sayaka murata.

because right now, i want...no, i NEED....something that entertains me and goes in one eye and out the other. my brain needs cuddles and comfort and the intellectual equivalent of ben and jerry's cherry garcia to amuse it.

so homeland elegies is just going to have to wait, but it β€” and others like it β€” are on my list so don't come at me. =D

and now it's time to pack or clean or read. or something.

* once a trainer told me that there's no such thing as a horse that's not for sale. in theory, he was right.

** nandor the sass mouth husky had some problems with his rear foot and we had to get the vet out. she extracted three foxtails that had abscessed and $300 + one wrapped foot later + antibiotics, he's fine.

*** i found a dead, desiccated snake next to the house that we thought was a shed. it was wedged under a piece of metal and i can't believe no one but me saw it. ugh.

"yep. it's fucking hot" That is an entry within itself. The 10 day forecast here in Texas had a low of 99. Yep, it's fucking hot indeed!

if that's the low, i'd die even more. we're at highs in the low 90s/lows in the high 50s, but in the day with no cloud cover? at 5500 ft. altitude it feels like the sun is just beating the shit out of you. ugh.

I was born and raised in the Midwest. No snow sounded good a decade ago. Now? I'd happily take a cold winter over a brutally hot summer.

Well I'm sorry that the house fell through after you got so far in the process! But it sounds like you're confident it was for the best, if still disappointed. I'm hoping that the new one doesn't hit as many snags.

Ew @ the dead, dessicated snake D:

You gonna go for Hello Fresh while he is gone?

i'm mostly confident it is alllll for the best. :) i'm with you on hoping the next one is smooth as butter. the snake thing was horrid but also fascinating! the little skeleton was evident and we saw the little fangs, too. the pattern suggests it was a garter or gopher snake or rattlesnake, but because it seems like the tail part was gnawed off (probably by one of the dumbass dogs), we can't tell for sure. and we may hello fresh, for sure!

Glad things seem to be working out.
Is fey the cross mare that she was wanting to buy? She's a baby?

Date: 2023-07-25 01:41 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] liminal-space.livejournal.com

Fey is new to the scene -- she's an Andalusian (or cross...hard to say, she was rescued from a kill pen) and is 9 years old. The trainer thinks she was never riidden before. I don't remember the cross I was mentioning lol

You said Andalusian cross, so this is probably her.

Ah, not baby, but new to riding. That's impressive she's so calm.

Ok, got it! I thought she was a cross (and still do, but lort forbid I tell the teenager she is wrong) but kid is adamant she isn't. Lol

something that entertains me and goes in one eye and out the other

Have you seen GLOW? (Netflix.)

I highly recommend GLOW. Don't be put off by the "women's wrestling" aspect. It's a deep, incredibly hilarious show about female friendship and weird entertainment industry fringe stuff.

Also, since I know you're a Sistah Sims fanβ€”Sims 4 just came out with a horse pack. πŸ˜€

I have for sure watched GLOW and loved it. :) I was actually thinking about it the other day, wishing it would have continued on or had longer seasons. I'm growing weary of the new "8 episode series" format a lot of US shows are following. We're not fucking British, man....give me my 26 episodes per season and have shows run past their prime. *nod* lol

Girl. GIRL. We got the expansion when it came out. =D

and here I thought you were busy packing! well...here's to the smaller (but hopefully a better fit overall?) place ticking your boxes!

It's fucking hot fucking everywhere. boo. I work outside--I mean, I signed up for this, and I'm hating the hot & muggy temps here. It totally wears me out. I'm a slug today & I didn't even work outside that long yesterday...it's only going to be hotter here for the rest of the week. Wondering about my life choices at this point.

Your kid sounds like she's alright! Don't you love it when that happens!

good luck with the...everything. lol !

I have not been busy packing. :( lol We'll find out tomorrow if new place is still in the running. I think it will be, but who knows? The owner is selling it and that always opens weird shit, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

I don't know how you can work in the heat/humid β€” I just fall over dead. :(

So...I'm very curious--is the new place still in the running?! Inquiring minds want to know!

This last week I struggled mightily with working. It was so freaking hot. I didn't work a heck of a whole lot-I feel like like a wimp! I do, however, enjoy living...working in the high heat is no joke. Plus, it is very, very wearing...it absolutely wipes me out energy-wise.

We had a front come through last night and it felt SO good outside this morning. Of course, by the afternoon it was 87, but the high humidity seemed to be gone. Naturally, it's Sunday today, so I wasn't planning on working outside anyway!

lol..felt the same about Suits. Loved Luis and that's it. It was a show I hated but there was something that kept pulling me in! ha! And then I hear my lawyer friends get annoyed at everything about the show! Very entertaining.

I am watching Sweet Magnolias for cheesy entertainment β€” new season is out!

Fey is so cute! <3

Sorry the house fell through.

It's going to be hot tomorrow onwards for us as well.. yikes.... Want to say we are used to high of 90F here... but the heat is also different this year and even 85F seems so very uncomfortable.

see???? it's like the show was mostly cotton candy that just melted on the tongue except for some nice little parts that had enough hook to keep you going. i want to try sweet magnolias, so maybe that will be my next show to binge watch!

it seems like it's brutal hot everywhere. :( we had humidity yesterday and it was horrible.

Sorry about the house even though it is for the best. I hope this next one is the one!

Fey is very beautiful!

Sometimes you just need easy fun reads and there is nothing wrong with that. :D

thank you, darlink. <3 i finished a book called "the echo of old books" and it was not fun and it was sort of sad through 90% of the book, but it was good. i think i'm just going to find a summer beach read and try not to deal with complicated plot or elegant prose for awhile. i need that type of read in my life! lol

LOL I actually hated Louis at first but I came to love his personality. It's funny how that is. :P

i think i didn't start really liking him as much as i did until the second season β€” but i loved every scene he was in before that. when he hooks up with shelia the first time, i was like WTF LOUIS LOL β€” but loved him for his naughtiness. :)
