monday coffee klatch
Aug. 14th, 2023 09:39 am+ mister got up early to take the truck to the dealer (an hour + away) to get some recall work done. apparently, we need to get those done before we can get the clean registration before the move. whatcha gonna do? they're giving him a loaner car, so he may just be coming back home today then picking it up tomorrow OR he may be toodling to a starbucks or other place where parking is welcome, so he can work until the truck is ready.
+ speaking of coffee, i had a dream last night that i opened a little cafe and on the soft open we were overwhelmed with customers. yep, my dream coffee is apparently as good as i think my RL coffee is. o.O i also made the best french fries ever — and was wandering around the cafe waving one long fry at people asking them, "have you TRIED these fries? aren't they the best?!"
+ our real estate agent came out last week and was going to get us comps for our place so we have a much better idea of what we'll actually be asking for when we actually put this house on the market. the day after, the west coast MLS went down — apparently it got hit with ransomware and, well, they're negotiating with the terrorists.
while i don't really talk much about what mister does — mostly because i don't understand it in detail — THIS kind of thing is what he prevents. (among a slew of other things) well, it's what he prevents for companies who are willing to make sure their shit is secure.
which many — most — aren't.
right now, all of us have information out there that is just sitting ripe and ready for unscrupulous (vs. scrupulous?) hackers to steal because the companies that have our data are too fucking ignorant and/or cheap to attempt to protect it.
+ we found $800 in one of my secret stash envelopes last week. =D that makes me happy and will cover a huge chunk of the road trip for mister and his friend or for me and teh kid. when i was working, i used to periodically find uncashed checks in the bottom of my purse/backpack and those times were always exciting because FREE MONEY. i miss those days. lol
+ we had a really nice thunderstorm yesterday late afternoon and kid and i sat outside and enjoyed it. there's something about storms in the mountains that are so different from flat land storms that i can't help but mourn the fact that yesterday was probably the last bit of magic like that i'll have for a long time. i'm certain that lake storms will have their own beauty, but man...i'm going to miss the mountains.
+ there's nonsense related to the move (of course) and most of it is related to money or packing. this too shall pass. [we may lose a deposit with the first movers we booked; we haven't received our earnest money back from the 80 acre farm offer; i'm still not ready to list this house OR move; etc and so on and so forth.]
~~it's all about keeping the 'just keep swimming' mentality going. right? right! ~~

Date: 2023-08-21 06:20 pm (UTC)I just follow the golden rules of coffee making — which most people don't. o.O 1.5-2T per 6 oz of water; good coffee that's roasted correctly; monitor temperature of water. That works perfectly for the drip. When I do a pour or press, I actually time each step so it comes out consistently good. :)
People get hung up on the "type" of coffee a little too much, I think. While crap like Folger's is anathema to my very existence, Peets, Caribou, and other large companies deliver some pretty nice stuff. I've had bad luck with some small farm production companies that promise the world and deliver shitty roasts. All that said, if I could afford the really good Jamaican Blue Mountain every single day, I'd do it and drink nothing else.
