liminal_space | pushing it back...

the plan last week had us leaving tomorrow. due to CIRCUMSTANCES, we've pushed the days a little...movers will be here saturday to get all the pods, and kid and i will be leaving saturday morning before they get here.

mister was originally going to travel with one of our friends, but that fell apart through no fault of the friend. so, my FIL will be coming in saturday night and doing the drive with him. not as ideal as the friend situation, but i do hope it will be ok.

i feel like there's no way we'll be ready for the pods to be picked up, but mister assures me we're doing ok. right now, all i can do is trust.

this morning i woke up with a pretty bad sore throat and was 100% sure i had covid for no reason other than it was really sore and last night i felt super OFF. anyway, no fever and my throat is feeling better, so yay! i wish that stupid new vaccine was available, but alas.

side note: isn't it amazing how vaccines protect us? we no longer have to fear smallpox infected blankets being tossed at us. woot.

anyway.

now that i know i'm not a covidiot, i am going to work on the little tasks that i've been putting off:

a) streamlining what i'm taking on the drive. apparently, i think i'm going on a first class transatlantic boat ride circa 1912. teslas are NOT designed for that amount of luggage.

b) pulling out and packing the bits and bobs in the pantry that should go (spices, weird condiments) and the last of the cooking things that we won't be using before we go (e.g. baking sheets, le creuset casserole, cast iron frying pan, etc.).

c) printing out rules for gin rummy and packing a bag with ACTIVITIES for kid and i. i told her she was going to learn to play gin with me and every single day, we were going to play for STAKES. my thought is that whomever loses has to dump the little cooler we're taking and refill with hotel ice.

d) making more lists. i'm LIVING for my lists. i'm not actually doing the things on the lists in any organized way, but still. L I S T S.

e) packing up the bathroom shelves into two categories: category a — stuff we need on the trip and category b — stuff that goes in the GO BIN that will get stuck in the trailer mister is hauling behind him.

f) taking frequent breaks to watch /riverdale/ because why not?

the other day we were in the parking lot at the country club and my old trainer (where we boarded) saw me in the truck and came over. it was a nice chat for 8 seconds then i burst into tears. lol she said she was hoping to see me before i left and through ugly tears i said "THIS IS WHY I COULDN'T".

jesus.

speaking of ponies, dakota has a nice girl that is going to be working with him whilst we're gone. she's 15 and has two mustangs at home, so who knows? maybe she will fall in love with him and take him so he doesn't have to move to the north woods. we'll see. all i care about is that he's getting attention from someone nice.

speaking of other ponies, more connections have been made for horses out there — especially for the kid. she'll probably do pony club again, 4H, and i have my eye on two trainers that i think will be good for her. one of them is super close! the other one....not so much. meh.

i have a feeling the winter will be low key for all of us while we settle in. we can't do TOO much until this house sells, but what we can do will prepare us for the spring (fencing for horses, chickens, horses!, goats, garden, etc etc etc.). the one thing that pisses me off that i have to wait for is getting a new bathtub in the main bathroom.

at this point, there's no master bath — the upstairs bathroom will be used by company and us alike, so i'm going to have to keep it company ready. i'm talking more about how i have things i use all the time out on the counter, so i'll have to fix that. no worries though. anyway, the bathtub/shower thing is horrible, so the SECOND we get $$ from this house, i'm getting my soaking tub w/shower.

i mean it.

this has got to be over soon. sheesh.

ok. getting to work now. i'm sure i'll have one more post before we head out....my last post from california. SADS. :(
