THIS will be the last CA entry and instead of being :( about it, i truly am:

 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

why? because i sat down with the husband last night (you know, basically 48 hours before we leave) to map things out for the weirdest part of the trip: CA to North Rim and North Rim to the only available tesla supercharger within like...325 miles.

the tesla is a long range model, so i get 300 miles avg per charge. THAT IS A 25 MILE DEFICIT thank you very much. look at me mathing.

the nearest charger at all to the grand canyon lodge is a bit over 80 miles one way. so half of my charge would go to a round trip top up. but it's not a supercharger — it's basically two duracell batteries hooked up to a duct taped generator. read: gonna take a long time to charge up.

i had to think things through and math some more and get my results peer reviewed by the husband. i tried to engage the child in the peer review process, but all she did was nod and say she wanted a jelly donut on the trip AND, demanding little cave goblin that she is, chips and dip for the grand canyon.

girl, boo.

all of this is absolutely doable, but it's going to require me using MULTIPLE apps for the same purpose (one for supercharger locations, one that shows NON supercharger locations, and one that helps break up legs of the trip into miles). that annoys me. at least one of the apps shows places of interest we can stop at along the way, but doesn't give any information about said places — so i have to google things. so that's FOUR apps i have to use for one trip.

once we get to the first supercharger outside of the park, i'll rest easy. until then? omfg, call me julie the cruise director.

the good news is that when i called to push the date of arrival  for the grand canyon back one more day,  i found out that they had me reserved for 3 people instead of 2. changing that saved about $30 a day...yay! and considering how expensive the rooms and meals are going to be, that $90 will come in handy. =D

we have plans about food while in the park...there are no microwaves in the cabin, so we're going to use a kettle for ramen and oatmeal, and have fruit, bread, cheese, and yogurt for in-between snacks. we'll do one meal a day at one of the restaurants, but really....neither she nor i are excited about the menu. the ONE vegetarian option for dinner is a grilled cauliflower steak with mushroom sauce. it could be great, it could be meh — and if we get it, it will be a $30 (lols) gamble.

all of this would fall under the moot point category if we were going to the south rim. but we're not and we're sticking to our decision.

so there. *nod*

ok. that's it. i bid you adieu for now.

california out.

The situation with your car makes me viscerally nervous! This is why we have not yet purchased an all-electric car: finding enough charging stations and the time to charge a car fully when one has many miles to travel. Being out of electricity in a remote area is not my best-case scenario! 🙄 For now, I'll stick with my hybrid, though an electric car has wisdom for local driving.

I'm looking forward to your next entry from Wisconsin (or is it Minnesota — I can't remember 🤣). I hope your trip is an adventure: fun with no snags. Safe Travels!!

It's Northern Wisconsin but just a fart away from Minnesota....so it's Minnesconsin. :)

We've never had issues with charging before — and have gone all over. It's just that for some reason, this ONE area is stupid. It will be fine. At least that's what I tell myself. lol

I honestly don't think I'll have anything other than an EV again. We'll always have access to a gas vehicle, but I love how little maintenance we've had with the Tesla.

Best of luck with the move! The changing station identification and travel to sounds intense.

It's annoying more than intense at the moment. I will change my story on the day I'm living it. lol
