well that hurt
Nov. 27th, 2023 04:22 pmslippery socks, squirming cat in one arm, lack of attention paying resulted in me doing a little tumble on the 3rd to the last stair this morning. on my right side, my hip, butt cheek, shoulder, ribs, and knee got hit and/or twisted — on the left, my index finger got SOMETHINGED on the handrail and my big toe feels weird. nothing is broken, but i'm a ball of bruised and battered.
the cat's ok though.
i sat for a minute and almost started crying, not really because it hurt (it did), but more from a combination of indignity and that THING that little kids do when the fall and it's not that bad, but they gotta cry anyway. so mistreated.
i'd still rather deal with this than getting kicked by a horse, so i got that going for me. =D
mister is bringing me home a coney island hot dog (see the duluth one! that's where he's going!) and a coke because i'm wounded. sounds good to me!
this is the second time those stairs have tried to murderize me; i need an escalator. *nod*

Date: 2023-12-01 04:28 pm (UTC)nothing being seriously injured (beyond my pride) was a HUGE comfort! and it wasn't the last mishap — this morning i went down to let the dogs out and almost slipped on the last step. it was WEIRD — so i'm making myself do the stairs five times a day to get over this nonsense. lol
i was super glad the cat was ok, too! little hussy.

Date: 2023-11-28 11:38 am (UTC)The front stairs at this place tried to murder me a couple of times. I understand the need to release the shock of a fall with tears. Eventually, i showed those stairs: we replaced the narrow wood treads with beautiful stone front steps. Interior stairs are harder. Give the stairs a good talking to and ask them what they need.

Date: 2023-12-01 04:30 pm (UTC)what is WITH stairs that makes them so murderous? i'm glad you were able to show the outside ones who was boss....and yeah, inside stairs are much more problematic. the jerks. i THINK that maybe the last two steps are not the same height as the other ones — considering i almost had another mishap this morning. it's like i stepped down and where a step was supposed to be, there was air. then my brain kicked in and i saved myself.
sheesh.

Date: 2023-12-01 04:35 pm (UTC)it was — my body was bruised, my ego was bruised, and it was just a pile of mess. luckily, i felt right as rain after a day or two! :)

Ryan O'Neal kept calling a hot dog a "Coney island" in a movie I really like, Paper Moon, and it confused the hell out of me, thanks for the link.

Date: 2023-12-01 04:36 pm (UTC)before having a coney island hot dog out here before the kid was born, i thought it was something super fancy. it's just a chili dog....kinda. lol (i LOVE that movie, too!)

Date: 2023-11-28 08:28 pm (UTC)Ouchie! 😔 How do you feel now? Sometimes it can be worse the next day. I'm still dealing with shoulder pain from when I fell hiking in JUNE. In fact, other things hurt much worse, so I didn't even know my shoulder was jacked up for about a week. Now it's the only thing that still hurts. Sending healing vibes!!

Date: 2023-12-01 04:37 pm (UTC)day 1 — body battered, pride bruised
day 2 — body bruised and oh-so-sore, pride better
day 3 — hardly even noticed it! :)
shoulders can be a hot mess to heal up. i fell off a horse on a trail ride a few years ago (he fell, i fell, we all fell) and landed on my shoulder. it STILL is not right.

Date: 2023-11-28 10:58 pm (UTC)Falling is humiliating, especially when done when others are watching. Been there ... done that, and not long ago. This past week, actually.
I'm 73, and falling becomes a little more scary as one worries about broken hips — broken ANYTHING! In my case, I slid on a fallen pine cone in my sister's driveway in the dark. I was holding a bottle of wine we were taking to contribute to the dinner we were attending. And, as I was falling, the only thing my stupid brain could think about was NOT BREAKING THE WINE BOTTLE!! Funny thing about my priorities?!?! I didn't. But — Sheesh — I could have broken the hip (and thumb!) I landed on! My husband watched my "graceful" landing, and simply kicked away the offending pine cone (and others near it) so I could walk the rest of the way without those impediments in my path!
I'm glad neither of us were hurt. And, I enjoyed the wine 🍷

Date: 2023-12-01 04:39 pm (UTC)first, YAY about not getting hurt. slips and falls are so much harder the older you get. when i was 30, i would have just bounced up off the stairs and went about my life. mister sort of jokes about me being accident prone — he says i could cut myself on a ball of rubber bands.
which actually is true. lol
