feeling the loss

* it snowed yesterday and has been pretty cold. ninety-five percent of the time, i actually like this weather....when we lived in the sequoias, winter was my favorite season because of how quiet and introspective it is when there's actual WEATHER to deal with. five percent of the time? i'm just sad that i'm not home.
it doesn't help that i'm missing disneyland quite a bit right now. we went from monthly visits to no visits due to covid. then, when dland opened back up, some of the changes they implemented left us not wanting to even bother — so we didn't renew our annual passes. we kept telling ourselves we would go back, but....
here we are, a million miles away from one of my happy places and today i feel it. :(
i'm sure we'll get back there a few more times before we die (lol) but that doesn't make today's melancholy go away.
* we ended up sending my stupid walking pad back because i was seriously going to kill myself on it. who the hell in this world has a stride THAT short? i could probably have got in step (ha) with the walking in a straight line thing, but the mincing little steps? nope.
what i need is a) a reformer, b) an eliptical, and c) a mean-ass little personal trainer that chains me to both until my workouts are finished. =D until then, though, i'm trying to do STUFF without feeling bitter about it. because i'm sorry, i'd much rather be reading a book than doing strength training.
* the chicken news is GOOD, y'all. a local chicken lady is going to separate her americanas and orpingtons and we should have chicks within 4-6 weeks. that gives us enough time to get things all put together and ready! we all agreed that five would be a good number to start with — well, ok, MISTER and KID agreed, i tried to shoot for seven — so the coop we have (little starter cheapy one) will suffice until we can get the big one built.
i am not-so-secretly planning out my chicken farming outfit — shorts, mucky boots in a sage green, a tank top with a flowery, sheer, long-sleeved overshirt, and a straw gardening hat with strategic rips in the brim that scream "i am an experienced chicken farmer!"
shh.
* this week i'm trying to use up fridge/freezer bits and bobs for dinners. i made a MOST excellent mississippi pot roast yesterday and i'm making some sort of enchiladas and beans thing for tonight, with a veg either added to the enchiladas or on the side.
day before yesterday, i made a half turkey breast in the crockpot and shredded up the meat. the idea was to use that for lunches, but that hasn't happened as much as i'd like, so i'm thinking some sort of riff on a hot turkey sandwich for mister and i at some point this week....plus maybe some sort of pasta dish with it. dunno.
i also have two blocks of tofu to try a "tastes just like hamburger!" recipe that a) will not taste just like hamburger but might be good and b) will serve as a basis for some sort of bulgogi base. maybe.
aaaaand, because it's supposed to be super cold and snowy this coming weekend, hot pot is on the plate! i just need to find some udon so we can soup it up. there's some pork belly and shabu shabu in the freezer, so that's for sure coming out. i'm being super good this week (no going off plan, getting a little extra stretch and pull in) so i can splurge a little with my hot pot selections. dumplings for the win!
* ok. notary is coming in an hour so we can sign papers for the CA house. we are getting SO CLOSE to that being over. i'm looking forward to the day i wake up and not have to worry about that part of our lives.

Date: 2024-03-19 12:02 pm (UTC)Would you consider going down to Disney World? I know some people from my town who go down there something like 3 or 4 times a year, they do a deluxe trip, I must say. You will get back to your happy place, I just know it.
