this whole "weather" business is just silly. mister pointed out that most of the rest of the country is used to weather but i have lived my life in a place where the climate was pretty even-keel.
fair point.
so about the closing of the house. i'm happy it's over, but there's a hurt right below my heart because the finality of it all has hit.
grief is love.

yesterday we spent most of the day in duluth picking up costco necessities (ok, and some NON necessities), some art stuff for my edwardian lady adventures, and a few things for the chicken coop.
i forgot chicken food and grit, so have to pick those up — judging by the weather — thursday. mister and kid are going to a horse thing on friday night/all day saturday in minnenapplsidxslk, so i'm staying home to manage things. HOPEFULLY we'll have bebe chicks saturday. ONE batch is hatched already, so i guess i'm doing this in stages.
i have NO idea. i do know that since i'm doing this in stages, i think we'll just have to have nine chickens. *nod*
chicken math! =D

easter was...weird. mister's family does the get together on the day before easter which happened to be his birthday. i thought that would make things easy, but it just fucked up my whole "this is how my easter is supposed to look" thing.
this was the first year that kid and i did not dye eggs together. they're sitting in the fridge, white and sad. sort of like me right now. lol but not lol, either....it's like if things don't change where she is concerned, the world will be perfect. always.
so anyway, easter sunday they were tired from the festivities (i stayed home — old man onslow needs elder care, plus i just...no) and i was feeling OFF because of them being gone the day before and my whole holiday schedule being wonky, so it turned into just another sunday. d
ah, well. what are you going to do?
kid and i will dye the eggs today, because we actually LIKE doing it and who doesn't want to eat a pretty egg if one is going to eat an egg at all?
oh, and i made my first ever enriched dough on sunday. o.O i was scared, but after such nice successes with normal bread, i felt brave.
overall? pretty good! it's a recipe from a scottish cook i watch and she just called them "scottish buns" — she iced them but said they were tasty without the sugar icing, so i only iced half. the iced half? MEH. the non iced half? delicious. they made the BEST sandwich rolls ever.
i'm probably going to make another batch this week for sandwiches and such and keep these on rotation. yummy!

i just checked my personal crypto account and i am not yet a millionaire. :) IF i had invested a million dollars, though? i'd be more of a millionaire. i went in with $25 over two years ago and now have....wait for it....wait for ittttttt.....
$155.10 =D

we had a dead pheasant in the out yard and mister said there were tracks around it that might have been coyote or maybe fox. the dogs were VERY interested in the smells around the fence line, so we're going to soak some rags in ammonia and drape them around the tree line to keep creatures at bay. SUPPOSEDLY — based on the president of chickenlandia — this technique is helpful to keep your bebes safe.
we'll see.

be well, my gnomies.

Date: 2024-04-07 01:01 pm (UTC)Hey that's a pretty good gain on crypto!!
Good luck with the chicken safety measures! I would love to add chickens to our lives some day. Maybe after my kids learn to wipe their own butts or make their own snacks or... anything 🤣
