+ i finally got to see the northern lights! we had such a spectacular show for two nights — one night we had all the colors and the next night we had a lot of movement and shimmering and dancing in the sky. i've always wondered what indigenous people thought when they saw them, but really didn't understand how scary and amazing they would be to people who had no idea of the why behind them.

+ mother's day was super quiet around here. :) we celebrated our 23rd anniversary the day before, so it was a really nice weekend. twenty three years! i'd do it all over again, too — i shopped smart with that one. life without him would definitely be a much darker and desolate place; he brings me sunshine and happy, peace and calm.

good things for a dark and broody girl to have in her life, yo.

+ the horse barn is up, friends! well, the shell is. we need to still get the stalls in place before horses come and doors up before winter comes, but we're so so so so close! =D

i spent a few hours today grooming the arena area with my little drag and lawn tractor — it's looking really good and pretty soon there will be fencing and pasture areas and then? then? horses.

h.o.r.s.e.s.

of course we don't HAVE horses right now, but i'm all about the "build it and they will come" mentality.

+ the garden is coming along, too. we have dirt! no raised beds, but we have dirt. lol the one raised bed we have is doing GREAT and my cilantro is coming up beautifully. I'm not sure about the carrots, but there are green things popping through the dirt, so that's good. there are a million things that still need to go in the ground and i'm pretty sure my timing is off on a LOT here, but it's trial by error. as long as i get some green beans and tomatoes, i'll be happy.

+ the big girl chickens are in their new coop and have a nice outside space now. mister is finishing them a larger chicken yard that should be up and ready by the end of the weekend, but not sure — we have stuff going on sat. so that's a day off of building. :( meh. on monday, kid and i went to get more chickens... cutest little bebes ever. we do need more (for eggs, srsly), but that can wait a bit until we really decide what we're doing. i already have people wanting to buy eggs! some not even related! a local store has said they'd sell our eggs when they come, so i really am going to be a chicken farmer. =D

~~there's other stuff, too. some good, some bad, some so deep and thoughtful that there are no words, just truths. i miss my california quite a bit, but yesterday i was wrapped up in the scent of flowering dogwood and it smelled of oranges, reminding me of home. i think i'll be ok here.~~

23 years! That is something! Happy Anniversary to you & the Mister!

I can't believe you mentioned new baby chicks and no pix. wut!

That's cool you saw the northern lights that ensued because of the solar flares last weekend. I was asleep & I guess they were seen around here too.

yes! it is my goal in life to have a broken piece that's mended with gold — such a metaphor for how I feel most of the time. ;)

twenty three years IS something. i'm sometimes surprised that i've stuck with something this long — it's a record for me. lol

pics coming soon, swear. SWEAR. this lot is really quite adorable. well, the other lot was too, but these are all mismatched so I like the chaos.

the second night we saw them was the one I was most impressed by — they danced and moved and pulsed and it was magic. they saw them WAY far south, which was cool!

I still didn't see the lights ... I think I looked too early on day 1, and we didn't get them day 2.

Oh lovely, getting organised for the horses is great. They are beautiful animals, aren't they?

so the lights didn't look exactly like I expected them to, but they were still super amazing! we ended up just observing until well past midnight both nights which was WAY past my bedtime. silly aurora not paying attention to my bedtime.

I'm so excited about horses I can hardly stand it lol. there's quite a bit to do still, but we're getting there. and they are magical creatures. <3

I was going to laugh about how homesick you must be feeling to enjoy the stink of dogwood trees, but then educated myself :'D

What we've got all over Sac and I definitely called dogwoods are NOT dogwoods.

Happy anniversary 💞

Happy Anniversary!

I am very excited for you and your future horses.

On the other hand, I am very jealous that you saw the northern lights. They all looked so pretty.

thank you! I'm super excited, too! it's getting really hard to be patient. it's never been easy, but now? ESPECIALLY hard. =D honestly, i'm jealous of the people who are even farther north — they had crazy displays.
