just a spirit in the material world
May. 29th, 2024 02:48 pmlet's focus on the positive instead of me launching into a long-winded entry on how i HATE this time of the month with the bill paying and the budgeting and the trying to figure out how to live a champagne life on a stella artois income. IF i were going to write about the pissy, i'd also include a rant and rave about how high our electric bills are going to be this summer as i DGAF about cost when i am battling humidity.
ahem.
so, the positive — and there's a lot! =D
~ my garden is growing like mad and i've given up being meticulous in keeping track of what's going where and just gloriously embracing the chaos of scattering seeds. so what if i don't get all of the seeds in the ground? there will be, lort willing, next year. :)
over the next few days, there will be potatoes, flowers, herbs, tomatoes planted and i may be able to get some seeds started for late summer planting. we'll just have to see!
~ things have picked back up with wl — 2.6 lbs lost last week. just four ounces short of 50 lbs total gone. when i saw how close i was to that goal, i took off my headband and fitbit to see if i could get down 4 ounces. lol didn't happen. :( apparently, my scale knows when you're pulling shenanigans and just denied me. the fucker. lol
because i still have a ways to go for all health goals, i'm changing things up right now in an effort to really pull workouts in. not walks, not steps, but legit stupid cardio and stupid strength training.
i'm also looking at the next few months as an important time to put a lot more energy into mindset shifts. i feel like i have a really good handle on the diet, so just pouring more into diet honestly feels like avoidance — because changing thinking is harder than changing the food part of the equation.
i'm really excited about what the next changes will bring.
— some goals for this summer --
* go canoeing on one of the 17,293,292 lakes around here!
* pick a trail and go hiking on it!
* camp nano!
* get physically safe for riding — stupid strength training. ;)
i need to stress how proud i am of me — and what really chuffs me is how proud mister and the kid are. :)
~ i can't believe how great the chickens are doing. o.O i also can't believe how onboard the mister is with all of this — he even is trying to tell me to get more today! lol we need to discuss a few things with our chicken experts (eggsperts) about our setup, and then i might be willing to go grab some. we're up to 17 right now (!!!!) and i think another 14 would be a very good stopping point.
[omg, i am insane. lol]
part of the desire for more is that if i'm going to sell eggs, i need more eggs to sell. right? it's not that i want to be a commercial egg seller, but i would not mind making enough each laying season to pay for their food, our eggs, and reimburse ourselves for what we've spent on coop/yard $$$.

i also want guinea fowl, but that may be next year. =D
~ the barn is up. the arena fence line has posts where the fence will be. in theory? we could have horses within the next month. IN THEORY. o.O how lovely it is that we had a plan and the plan is blossoming. dreams do come true, y'all.
~ wow. just focusing on the positive made me feel much better! look at me being a queen with mindset shifts already! =D
ok. time to tidy up and get some bread started. xo

Date: 2024-05-29 11:11 pm (UTC)I love my air conditioning unit! I would think you might be far north enough that the humidity wouldn't be *so* bad. Guess you'll find out, and thus your gentle readers as well.
You guys are going off the chicken deep-end!!! Did one of the baby chicks fall asleep on the mister without pooping and now he wants more, more, MORE!!! lol I hope it works out like you hope, for sure.
Good job on your weight loss--that's impressive to be honest. I'm as fat & sassy as ever and not down 50 lbs. You are definitely setting a fine example for your LJ friends!

Date: 2024-05-30 12:53 pm (UTC)to be fair, the humidity here is NOTHING like the South — but it still can be heavy and uncomfortable for this "but it's a dry heat" girl. (that's what we used to say when it got to 110 degrees when we lived in the valley — "but at least it's a dry heat" lol). I don't know WHAT is going on with him, but when *I* am the one pumping the brakes? SOMETHING IS UP. :)
losing weight has not been easy (definitely not like when I was 25), but the changes i'm making are really making me feel better. I still indulge in less-than-healthy choices....but FAR more time passes between indulgences than ever before. I'm actually eating all of my vegetables every day and starting to LIKE them. that's a first.
and fat and sassy? love that! I probably will always be a little fluffy around the edges, too. =D

Date: 2024-06-04 11:52 am (UTC)lol :) if you lived next door, we could garden together, play with goats, and be fluffy and happy while playing whist (ok, or something else...I just really want to learn to play whist because it sounds SO fancy!). =D

I think you may be a bit farther north than I am here in upstate New York, but here, we def need air conditioning during the hottest months.
Also, I'm guessing you're gonna need a mosquito strategy. 😀

Date: 2024-06-04 11:58 am (UTC)thank you! <3 i'm still struggling with more, but it's about getting there sooner rather than later....so I just keep ploddin' along. :)
we are 46.6413° N <-— that looks pretty northern to me. (like I know...ha.) in CA where we lived, we could get by most days with an evaporative cooler (I love those so much!) because we had DRY heat. I used to laugh when people would say "yeah, it's hot here at 107 degrees, but it's a DRY heat." NOW I understand. today is going to be 83 with thunder storms. i'm probably going to die. :( it's been swell, kid....KIT with the ouija, k?
right now my strategy is deep woods off (my new parfum du jour) + those little thermacel things + mosquito coils (that shit does NOT work...it's just incense for hippie mosquitoes) + lots of swatting. it's all I got. :(
