I'm thinking that moving over to DW might be the smart thing to do, even if it will be a learning curve because

it

doesn't

look

the

same.

And THIS is an indicator that I am, indeed, getting older because I don't want to spend the brain cells on figuring things out. *sigh* Guess I need to suck it up and just do it. :)

Since last I've posted here, things have been going very well. New horse Misty (we got her in Feb of 2025) is the most amazing beast on the planet. She takes excellent care of me and puts up with my nonsense even though she's a) a mare and b) a CHESTNUT mare. =D

As of today, I've lost a total of 140 lbs. That is a whole other human and it makes me sad to realize how overweight I was and how I just resisted and resisted and resisted the fixes that needed to be implemented to do what I've done for myself.

We're closing out the old year with some sadness: at some point in the next month, we're going to have to let our beloved Onslow Bickerstaff (dog) and Buddha (cat) go to cross that bridge. While I'm sure Onslow will go to a place of peace and light, I fear the cat will reincarnate as a world eater or something.

She really is full of the void.

So. If you're reading this....please let me know? I want to try to migrate here, but.....you know. It'd be nice to know some of my buddies from LJ are here.

newcomers has lots of resources about how to use Dreamwidth and where to find things you'll enjoy here. If you're coming from Tumblr, soc_puppet is posting tutorials for that angle. Find your Tumblr friends here.

The Follow Friday Master Post has lists of active communities by topic where you can look for some based on your interests. Many bloggers use recurring posts to pin down their key interests and maintain activity, which is also a good source of inspiration if you aren't sure what you want to post yet.

Watch for snowflake_challenge coming in January. This is a big event with lots of activity where you can find new friends.

DW does look different from LJ, but there are lots of layouts to choose from. My personal DW and LJ (I am Ysabetwordsmith there too) look pretty similar -- same color scheme, same boxes around sections to distinguish them. Check out dreamwidthlayouts for inspiration.

Enh, I don't think it's necessarily about age. A lot of modern code is just garbage. Fortunately DW has been around a long time, so it's a lot better than today's blinking, whizzing, distracting websites. Plus of course, figuring out a new site is work, some are easier to use than others, and they don't all have good explanations.

We may or may not have crossed paths on LJ, but I've been there since 2007. Feel free to drop by either blog. My DW has a lot more posts. I just copy the main stuff on LJ nowadays.

I am thrilled you will be posting more on DW!!!! You are one of the three reasons why I continue to crosspost!!! The other two reasons, alas!, will never migrate, so I will continue to crosspost, but I like DW best.

Your weight loss journey is so inspiring! And I am sorry about Onslow & Buddha. It is the one negative thing about companion animals—they don't have humans' longevity & saying goodbye is always heartbreaking.
