a surplus of silk
May. 20th, 2025 06:20 pm~ girl and i did a skedaddle out and about today for some thrifting and hanging out and just enjoying doing whatever we wanted. it was very nice! i found a tommy bahama 100% silk shift dress that, because of a tiny little tear, they gave to me for free (!!!!), a few tanks, and a really cute t-shirt dress in HORIZONTAL stripes (omg, the horror!) that is going to be very cute with some polka dot mid-calf leggings and my chucks.
i am a style icon. (shh.)
i love going in to places like that and being disappointed at finding some really nice treasures and not being able to get them because they are too BIG. (there was an ADORABLE skirt in a 14 and i almost got it in the hopes it could be taken in....but i have promised myself not to buy ill-fitting clothes no matter what. ugh.)
~ we went to our favorite cafe and each had a cookie and a drink. while i wrote, she decorated my new notebook for me with flowers and a chicken. she really is a talented little artist — even her doodles make me happy. here's an example of her more fancypants work:

while we were there, i actually wrote something that may have legs. i'm admitting to being in a writing funk, where ideas are great, but getting them on paper...isn't. not great at all. so anything that doesn't seem like complete and utter garbage is very welcome.
~ whilst we were gone, two things happened at home. one good, one not so much.
the good thing:

the bad thing:

the power company came and stabilized it and we are waiting for the electrician to send over the quote to fix it. home warranty will pay all but $1000 of it (ouch), and we're also going to try and get things set up so we can piggy back on the fixes and get power to the barn.
this is an expensive month and it's not even over. :( we finally got a bill for misty's teeth floating ($650), bluebelle will be getting hock injections this week ($265), the farrier is coming this week ($120), and i'm SURE there will be something else that pops up because, well, that's the way it works.
we need to sell a lot of eggs this week. ;)
~ i seem to have misplaced my kindle (maybe it went off with my dl?) and i'm irritated and making salty faces. i'm sure it will turn up, but until then, i'm going through my to read list and organizing things. i THINK i am now almost off my horror kick so i need to find some other things to swallow me up. meh. so many books, so little time.
[well, all i've eaten today is an auntie esther 2.5 egg omelet, a few crunchmaster crackers (teh best things EVER), a cookie, and just enough coffee to keep me going. it's almost 6:30p, so i have already broken my "no eating after 4:30" rule. most days, i'd just have some veggies and fruit and call it a day, but girl needs more protein today. i better get on that.]

Date: 2025-05-21 11:56 am (UTC)Love the pomegranate girl! So sorry about the power pole. Those unplanned expenses, they do always show up. Glad it will be mostly covered. We try to plan for the unplanned. The first two vet visits for Edward Cat were in the pet vet and car repair fund for the month, but then the weekend emergency and euthanasia and cremation all have to come from somewhere.

I hope your experience with your home warranty company is better than mine.
