hiyas!

i am currently sitting in my office with the heady scent of lavender fabric softener filling the air. yeah, yeah...chemicals in my wash and all that jazz, but as a person who is frequently subsumed by olfactory transcendence, i stand by my choices.

it's a cool, wet day here in the northwoods — QUITE the departure from the muggy misery of the past week or so. of course we're warming up again, just in time for the weekend where we've volunteered to clean out stalls for a ponyclub fundraiser. horse shit, coarse shavings, and heat. how fun is THAT going to be? (answer: not very, kthx.)

kidlet received her box of ready-made meals from purple carrot and i have to say, the meals look really good! her sensory issues have made getting good food in her a little tricky at times, but the only one she's sort of waffling about is the one with brown rice — so hopefully this works out.

OUR ready-made meal box is coming tomorrow, with both mister and i each having ten meals. o.O i won't know what to DO with myself. some of mine are a little higher in calories and portion size than i'm used to, but i can just save what i don't eat for a different meal or snack. no matter what, this is going to open a lot more time for us to do STUFF outside without worrying about feeding everyone.

come winter? i'll be a cooking/baking fool. ;)

update: our food came early. my reptile brain said, "yay, no cook tonight!" and completely ignored the korean pickled cucumbers i'd made and the chicken that had been thawed. my higher level brain won, though — so i need to head up to cook pretty soon.

i also made a loaf of banana chocolate chip bread for the kid. it's baking right now and the smell is swoon worthy. this particular recipe is pretty pedestrian, but a few tweaks have made it a bit more surprising in flavors — greek yogurt for tang, chocolate peanut butter powder (PB2). yum.

there's a lot going on horse wise: new bridle needing to be put together, bluebell being gimpy/lame AF, misty being off last night, farrier coming tomorrow, need for a chiropractic visit for them both, scootboots for everyone, etc etc etc.

i'd say 10% of having a horse is actually riding it; the other 90% is paying for them, doctoring them, worrying about them, and cleaning up after them. just the way it is.

still, i wouldn't change it for the world.

and now, a video and some pictures!

i really want to make something like this for a wall; we have the wood for it and kid has the talent. me? i have the vision!

that is her fly mask — helps keep her eyes from getting irritated with flies drinking from them. i hate flies so much. >.<

thank you! that's her fly mask — helps keep flies away from her eyes. if there's too much fly action around the corners of her eyes, she could get inflammation and gooey weird stuff, which would require we put medicine in them. which is NOT a chore i enjoy, because you're like, "hold your head still while i get this medicine container REALLY close to your eyeball, ok?" and they're like, "eff that." =D

Banana chocolate chip bread is amazing. It's been a long while since I've baked any.

How do ready-made meals in the mail compare to frozen meals from the grocery store?
