upon a bank of violets
Jul. 15th, 2025 07:05 pmhello, my busy bees!
the weather continues to baffle me, so i've figuratively thrown in the towel on expecting consistency and now just go with the flow. sort of. today was a little problematic; mid-70s and rain, rain, rain (plus thunder and lightning).
it's SUMMER. i just don't get it.
instead of doing something easy, i decided to make focaccia. i'm already encountering "bread doing weird things based on humidity" issues and have no idea if i'll have a happy little loaf or an epic fail. tomorrow we'll see!
the plan is to serve it with some fresh mozz, garden basil, and sliced fresh tomatoes. drizzle OO and balsamic over it all and you have a perfect meal.
because if i'm going to do carbs, i'm going to do carbs right. *nod*

yesterday the girl and i went off for some thrifting and then spent the afternoon at the beach. it was hot even beside the lake, but i'm going to say this and you need to really listen, just in case someone asks you:
no matter how hot a day it is, lake superior water is coooold.
so we were, at least, able to cool down.
one of the things i really like about the midwest is that the majority of people are on the thick side. i saw women who wore their bikinis with zero shame, completely NGAF if there were saggy or puffy places spilling over. so much joy at the body acceptance in full display. =D you GO queens....you go.
i have to keep reminding myself that the majority of people (the vast majority) really don't care if you're chubby or scrawny or something to either side or between; in fact, most people don't even really LOOK at you....it's a reminder that you are not as important as you think you are. i LIKE that. plus, i'm at a point in body size that i'm pretty average; i blend in to the scenery of a crowd and i that makes me completely chuffed.
to celebrate my averageness, i ate a few handfuls of salt&vinegar bugles which are strange and odd and highly addictive. after having what i did, i had kid tuck them away from me so i wouldn't mindlessly grab them. seriously, that crunch and tang was delightful!
they would have been fabulous with a dr. pepper, but since i only allow myself sugary drinks once or twice a month (if that), it just wasn't in the cards.

this saturday, mister and i are going to minnyapples to pick up our friend K from the airport on sunday. we're looking for a nice hotel to park in for the evening — hopefully one close to the casino (gotta see those cousins!) and one that has a fancy bathtub. it has been sooooo long since i've had a good soak. [eventually, we'll redo the bathroom, but at the end of the day, there is so much i'd rather have/do with the money.] anyway, it will be a sweet little getaway for us. <3
until dinner time:

Date: 2025-07-16 02:46 pm (UTC)I couldn't swim in Superior. I'm such a prima donna especially now that we're spoiled with warm water in our backyard. When I travel to a beach the water had better be as warm as a bathtub, or at least over 80 degrees, Yeah, I'm a delicate snowflake.
I have noticed that since I moved here to one of the flyover states, the pull of gravity is stronger and my number on the scale has gotten bigger. Of course it's because of a lack of the discipline that you have mastered so well, but I also attribute it to poor cultural food habits. I really noticed a huge difference in the quality of restaurant fare when I visited Vancouver recently. Here it seems the only vegetable most restaurants serve is the French fry, unless said vegetable is dipped in batter and served deep fried.

It's like the Oregon coast water-always cold, OMG.
Love the people wearing whatever on the beach.
