+ yesterday's plans were completely derailed after we had to deal with a wildlife emergency. o.O simple simon, the orange barn cat, found a nest of baby rabbits and decided to bring them alllll out so he could have new friends to play with.

oh, dear.

none were hurt, so kid and i made the executive decision to box them up and try to save them ourselves. [putting them back in the nest, removing the cat, etc and so on would not work — momma rabbit put the nest RIGHT out in the open and the cats would have got them again. even moving a few feet away wouldn't work.] after reading how hard it would be, we reached out to a wildlife rehab center and they confirmed that even with professional bunny fixers, it's dicey AF. high mortality rate, bebe buns have.

the rehab center would be happy to take them for us if we could get them to them.

so....we did.

they closed at 8:30p, so kid and i got in the car, secured the buns with the seatbelt, wrapped towels around the box for added insulation and stability, turned on the rear seat warmer, and took off around 5p.

we decided we were wildlife EMTs and adopted that sort of salty attitude that comes with knowing you are on a noble quest to save lives — kid even made british siren noises (i have NO idea why she didn't do US ones) when people were driving stupidly. WHICH IS ALL THE TIME HERE. <--- swear to jesus, i saw some bitch almost cream herself by swerving into an oncoming semi.

right after THAT, the rain started. hard. for the two hour and 15 minute drive (made longer by my beloved child's need to frequently stop and relieve her thimble-sized bladder) we arrived at the rehab center and handed off the buns. all four had made it!!

god speed little buns. god speed.

on the way back, there was MORE rain and then stupid fog.

note on fog: i grew up in the central valley of california and i KNOW fog. tule fog (look it up if you want, but tldr; it's horrible and terrible and stephen king probably was writing about it when he wrote /the mist/) is what i'm familiar with, so know how to drive in it...but minnesconsin fog can be almost as bad, just for shorter stretches of road.

anyway, it was a white knuckle going and returning. the moment i got home, i took my night meds and tried to get to sleep.

+ with that adventure, my plans of getting ALL THE THINGS(tm) done got tossed out the window.

oh, well. it will get done like it always does. :)

as soon as sec unit finishes vaccuming the dining room and kitchen, i'm going to try and knock the to-do list out. the goal today is to work smarter, not harder. *nod*

+ the weather has been SO NICE for everyone and everything except the tomatoes. for the past few days, things have prevented me from hopping on my horse, but i'm going to rectify that later this afternoon. :) kid has a lesson on saturday morning, so we have to fix my stirrup leather — misty tried to scrape me off on a fence and my iron/foot got caught in the fence and caused drama — iron and the strap fell off, misty spooked a bit, but we survived. :)

luckly, nothing was broken — the leather did what it was supposed to do.

ok. time to do.

I hope those baby rabbits make it.

I never knew there were different types of fog. I've always just thought fog was fog, caused by warm air meeting cooler air (or air meeting a warmer or cooler surface I guess).

Kudos for your valiant efforts for those bunnies, including all that white knuckle driving! Nature can be so cruel.

I remember tule fog!

Now that I'm a wimpy driver, I can't believe I ever drove in it.
