+ i'm reaching out to the hive mind regarding credit scores. both mister and i have had our credit scores go down because of the high balances on the credit cards. the internet gave me conflicting advice on how to pay them down to get the most credit score bang for my buck.

some sources say to pay revolving credit down to 60% then 30% then 10% over the course of three or four months. some sources say you'll get the same results by just paying them off. anyone know the real deal?

i've decided to pay off the car in six months vs. this month, even though i want to get out from under that payment. i figure six months more of payments will up my credit score, too.

pfft!

speaking of my car, she's off on her right fore. :( if she were a horse, we'd be calling the vet. since she's not, we have to figure out where we can take her — because tesla fixing people are a little hard to find outside of certified tesla centers.

i live in the middle of nowhere, so the closest center is like....three hours away.

mister thinks it's the bushings (bushing? sashing? boogers?), but she's on very light duty until we get it fixed. which means i'm going to have to drive the truck, which is never my favorite thing to do: it's so BIG. :(

nothing can happen for at least a week or two, since he's gone to CA until friday and when he gets back, he'll probably have all sorts of work stuff to do to catch up on. no matter what, we need to get it fixed because even though we've been talking about getting me a new car better suited for northern minnesconsin roads and weather, i'm desperate to get All Things Paid Off.

(plus i want a tractor. shh.)

+ there's a turkey breast in the crock that should feed both the skinny dog and i for a week. i also miscalculated the number of hard boiled eggs i made yesterday and instantpotted 24 without thinking about the man being gone for the week. skinny dog should get some of those, too — she can have the yolks and i can eat the whites.

beyond that, i'll make some vegetarian curry and potato soup so the kid and i both will have dinners and/or lunch to pull from.

food is always a struggle around here with two very distinct dietary restrictions/preferences — kid's vegetarian with no limits on anything else, and i focus on clean eating, low carb, low fat, and making sure i get my protein and veggies in each day. or at least TRY to meet my protein and vegetable goals.

i was hoping to get a ride in today, but we're a bit windy and cold, so maybe we'll just take the day to regroup and relax, since the next week without mister is going to be busy. light a candle for me. ;)

+ i got a really adorable pink and wavy wig for d&d nights, and i'm looking forward to the next time we play! kid said i should wear it the next time we go out, so i may!

pink hair, flannel shirt, truck drivin' girl....that's going to be me. lol

ok. i am thinking i may make some bread today. but i'm also thinking it's 4p and why not allow myself a bit of time to just putter about. or i could just cave to the dramatic husky who is BEMOANING the fact his favorite human is gone and lay on the ground with him and hand feed him nibbles.

Just a personal anecdote. I have no idea what my credit score is. My one card I got back in the 90's when I was earning 60K a year. I had a 14K limit on it until a couple years ago when they found out I had retired on noty much more than 25% of that. They slashed my credit limit. No biggie. These days I only use it to rent cars in the States and buy airplane tickets when I visit my folks. For the last two years, I have paid off my balance almost every month. A couple times, I let it ride with a payment just a bit over the minimum. Long story short, they just notified me that my limit had been doubled.

We rarely used them before the move, but during the move and right after, we loaded them up. :( I'm going to be so glad when those effers are paid off! :)

We try to stay up on credit info because husband's jobs have all done background and credit checks. So his # is actually more important than mine. :) BUT I need to have enough emergency cash or credit to buy an alpaca 🦙 or goat 🐐 if I get a wild hair.

Alpacas are cool. They don't have hooves, just padded cat feet.

What annoyed me was when I paid off my loan, my credit score plummeted. Apparently you need to be making some kind of balance (be in debt) to have a good credit score.

When I was talking to my credit union about credit scores, they told me credit bureaus like it best when your credit usage is at about 30% of your total credit.

I don't know much. I know mine has improved as I've paid several off over the past few years. Trying to get most of it paid off in the next year, but dang, if, as someone commented here, her score dropped big time when she paid it all off.

The last time I could pay off a bunch, just paying off as much as possible in one fell swoop is what I was advised to do. And my score went up within 4-6 weeks. Apparently it takes until the next month for the services to register it.

Good luck getting the debts paid off. I hate owing money, so I pay everything off all the time, but I know it can be hard if you have large debts!

i THINK i knew that. when I went to peru for work many, many moons ago, i was able to visit quite a few market spaces where alpacas (and llamas, I think) were just hanging out near their humans who were selling goods made from their hair (wool?) — I bought a gorgeous blanket, they packed it in a plastic bag for me, and I schlepped it home a few weeks later.

I probably could have been arrested for smuggling live and exotic species, because in that plastic bag, nestled in that gorgeous alpaca blanket was a horde of vicious peruvian fleas. lol

that makes NO SENSE. ugh! honestly, the credit score is not SUPER vital right now, but i'm afraid if I don't get it in the range it was, if we need to finance a car or tractor (or horse, let's be honest), we won't get a good rate. I know I could just, you know, SAVE the money to pay cash on these things....but YOU NEVER KNOW.

.....that really makes no sense. none. but thanks for the information! better to be informed and bitch about things than ignorant and still bitching. ;)

i don't understand that, but that seems to be the consensus. I think we'll approach things slowly at first and see what happens. thanks for the additional input. :)

nice! like I said, the information seems so contradictory. maybe I need to factor in moon phase, barometric pressure, and wind speed. ;)

thank you! I hate it, too! especially credit cards. the rates are horrid! we used to do the same (pay off every month), but since the move, we just haven't been able to. :( well....technically we COULD have, but i NEEDED a barn for the horses I didn't yet have....and then the horses to put in it. lol
